Talking about residential gas fired equipment. In some places, like here in Toronto Ontario, the gas license holder reserves the right to shut down equipment if they feel it's unsafe and red tag it. I've heard there are some places where they are not allowed and only the gas distribution company can do this or infact heard rumors of it being up to a home owner which is scary as they are uneducated on the potential dangers. For instance, during a power outage a couple of years ago here, a whole family passed because they were trying to heat the home with a barbecue indoors. I would prefer to not leave this in the hands of the homeowner. Whats your thoughts? @hvac_grammarian wrote an article talking about this. https://www.hvacknowitall.com/blogs/blog/595701-cracked-heat-exchangers-in-furnaces--what-should-we-do#.YDJ5lWlyaDY
