Someone sent me this a while back, pretty cool cut away of a 4 way or reversing valve. Students, the reversing valve reverses refrigerant flow once the it leaves the compressor. The outdoor coil (condenser) becomes the evaporator and the indoor coil (evaporator) becomes the condenser. It allows an air conditioning system to also heat a space as well. When dealing with conventional heat pumps, it's best to use the terms indoor and outdoor coils, just to not get confused. Geothermal heat pumps are a bit of a different animal. If you have any part cutaways, feel free to post them up in the Tips, Tricks and Part Cut Away group.
