For those who may install trane systems, we offer a ten year parts warranty to the customer on their heat pumps that we install. We had a three yr old system and the auxiliary heat contactor stuck. We told the customer the unit was still under the ten yr warranty and they would only have to pay for the labor. We filled out a return authorization form, sent it in and ordered the contactor. Trane denied the warranty. We found that a heat bank is an optional item, and it ONLY COMES WITH A ONE YEAR WARRANTY. We stood by our word and gave them a contactor and informed them the heat bank was no longer under warranty because it is an optional accessory and not part of the unit. Just a heads so no one else learns the hard way. On another note, we ran into Honeywell tstats running out of warranty early for the customer. We still honored the warranty because we were to blame so be careful with stats as well. Always look at the date before you install it. Our shop orders stats by bulk. It may sit on the shelf for a couple years before one of us adds it to our truck inventory. Most of us carry two or three of each model, so it may stay on our van a couple more years. We had several stats go bad within two yrs after being installed but we had the stat for 4 yrs. Honeywell offers a 5 yr warranty but our customer only received a yr of the warranty and it didn’t help them. So learn from our mistakes and just be aware of what you are installing.
