So had a service call on a tempstar split system tonight. Issue was the blower was blowing out warm air, customer thought the ac wasn’t running. Then the entire system just shut off and the customer noticed the light on the furnace had went out. On arrival I seen the fuse was blown so went directly to my fuse popper tool to begin diagnosing. Started everything up and the popper popped almost instantly. Removed the Y wire (following my gut for a minute) and nothing happened, then the transformer popped and poof magic smoke. I’ll be returning tomorrow to replace the transformer and dual cap to try and start the system up. Is there anything further i need to check out? I feel like the transformer popping without the fuse popping is an indication of a deeper issue? Or did it blow due to a mistake made on my end?
