So a crackhead stole a truck around midnight Wednesday night got some Taco Bell he was high AF, left Taco Bell drove down the way went off the road clipped a power pole at high speed broke the pole smashed a phone junction box landed in a yard clipped a few shrubs then drove back on the road made it about 2 miles before the wheels fell off. He then got out called his GF to pick him up, ate his Taco Bell, smoked an entire pack of cigs before she picked him up. They both left and went home. Meanwhile the power pole damage caused a HUGE surge took down dept of health main frame, PSAP servers and 911. They called me of course I was 12 hrs away. With my help we restored 911 over the phone via extension cords and microwave outlet. Generator wouldn’t kick on because I assume 2 of the 3 legs had full power but the 3rd leg only had 70-90 volts not enough to trip transfer but so less to run 911 on equipment that was using that leg. After about an hr on the phone we had all systems restored temporarily. Yesterday they replaced the pole and restored power as the personnel was putting systems back a lot of issues came forward. So I got there around 11pm and found about $20k in equipment damaged. I had enough stuff to get them back but we have a lot of orders today. All the equipment was protected via UPS with line conditioning and sine wave. But because when he hit the pole one line arched against another this created a surge more powerful than the protected value. It didn’t kill everything but just enough to cause major issues. A lot of city county officials are pissed at this dude, the common sentiment was (tar and feather) I felt that! This crackhead ruined my week and sleep for 2 days. But we’re all good now after gathering most equipment locally and sending people to other cities and states we are down to 4 power supplies needed but not critical RN. Moral of the story no matter how much protection you put on equipment there’s always a crackhead!
