On a rooftop today for a no heat. Found the breaker tripped. Reset and ran heat fine. It's 48 today but it was 75 a week ago so I ran cooling and as soon as the system started I heard the compressor growling and then the breaker tripped again. So I did all the checks, checked the compressor windings, checked the voltage coming in and through the disconnect, checked the contactor and I noticed it was brand new so the contacts looked new as well. Now I know we do the maintenance here but I couldn't find any record of us doing work on it and noticed we hadn't been out for winter PMs. Turns out the bean counters in the office switched to a company who does it cheaper and they recommended a bunch of parts be swapped and this contactor was one of them. When the swapped it out they didn't tighten this terminal screw down which holds the spade termination block to the contacts. I guess the lesson hear is 1. Take time to become familiar with the parts you use and parts you are installing. 2. Small mistakes like this can cost your company. These guys did 1 Maintenance and made some cash of the parts but now have lost the contract due to this simple mistake. I'm glad we be getting the contract back Because there are several other issues I found that need taken care of while I was up there. Nice little roof with 3 5 ton rooftops over looking a golf course.
