HP 477d printer with no grounded power 🔌 has come under assault of numerous power surges over the past 3 years. The internal power supply drainage caps have failed and the electromagnetic harmonics noise was searching for a way out (ground) since the caps failed the noise had nowhere to go but hitch a ride on the intranet via the Ethernet and the fax line, then the harmonics crossed over onto the EMS network Bacnet over IP causing a pulsation and IP packet corruption thus causing HVAC issues, phone issues, audio issues, network issues, access control issues etc etc. I searched the building for the “noise” isolated it to this printer, took the printer apart added a external ground wire to the PCB and just like magic all systems restored and functioning properly. Every controls tech and company in the area, every phone guy including AT&T was involved and no solution for the past 6 months. They called me today at 2:20 I got there at 3:30 and was fixed by 4:40. The site Mgr said they spent $26k over the last 6 months paying these vendors and it was only til they gave up and a random salesman for Suddenlink suggested that they call me and for that they actually found relief today. They now know it’s the printer and they have other printers as well but no issues with them right now but they know what to do and how to check. Now they’re calling in all the other vendors and showing them exactly what I found what I did and how to determine if anything like this happens again. This is one reason why people pay me to travel. Now you know what we do.
