Happy Monday everyone. So I've been hearing a lot of podcasts recently on different classes of refrigerants(A1, A2, A2L and so on) and it got me thinking along a different path. Lets use R410a for this example. R410a is a 50/50 blend of R32 which is mildly flammable and R125 which has flammability inhibitor qualities. Let's say we have a 410a system that has been leaking. Some techs will top off the charge assuming it's not a huge amount and often times the system runs fine. But we don't know which blend has leaked at a higher rate. If we have leaked the R125 in a higher percentage than we essentially now have a non classified refrigerant with a potentially high flammability limit. Most of the time I'll always recover and replace a full liquid charge with blends but I've never considered the flammability as the reason.
