I'm learning refrigeration and I wanted to see what everyone's initial checks are when they arrive. These are the steps I was told by our lead refrigeration guy. I think it's important to gather information from others becuase it's hard to know what you're being taught is the best way. And its at no fault of the trainer but rather just bad information handed down over the years. Curious what you guys think of these. 1. Check for ice in the evap and if there is shut it down and thaw it out 100%. Told me not to leave any ice at all. 2. Once there isn't ice and the system is back on mark the defrost clock with a pencil to be sure the timer is rotating and check the SH at the evap. Check the temp split across the coil. 3. Flash the receiver. (use a torch to add some heat to the side of the receiver. Use my finger to determine where the liquid level is at in the receiver. Should be at least 1/3 full. 4. Cycle the defrost clock and ensure the defrost is working correctly. 5. Of course use your senses. Make sure the fans are running, make sure the condenser isn't short cycling and just make sure things are running as expected.
