“Happiness begins where your comfort zone ends.” I may not be the best technician or have the experience of others in the trade, but I will always accept the challenge. Prior to this month, I had no idea what exactly a VRF Super Heat Recovery Machine was, so when my office told me I would be working on one, I immediately went looking for different literature. The next day, I was sent out to work on this Toshiba Carrier Heat Recovery system and found that it was low on oil/refrigerant. After performing leak searches on all coils, trees, and line sets, I found a mechanical joint leaking on a fan coil. This is one of the biggest systems I’ve worked on in my life, and one of the most complex. Never have I ever had to add 150lbs of refrigerant to a system. This feels like a turning point in my career because I remember back about five years ago when I didn’t even have confidence in myself to install a two-pole contactor on a rezi package unit. What I’m trying to say is that we all have been sent out to work on things that we have never seen in our careers, but by breaking out of our comfort zones, we unlock new potential to become better.
