Anyone ever deal with an Ameristar heat pump? Apparently Trane owns them or used to own them. Never knew that as I don’t deal with Tranes too much. Anyway figured I’d post my oh so lovely diag on this thing today see what advise y’all can give in case I missed something. Even my guys at our supply house were scratching their heads. Heat pump heat pump is less than 2yrs old. It was shutting off and throwing a 3 code which according to the data plate has to due with the low pressure cut-out however after some time of diagnosing and cycling it stopped throwing that code Ohmed out the compressor everything checked out. Checked voltage going to the compressor, still good, checked it to ground, no issue. Checked the dual cap, good. Inrush and running amps, good. With my gauges hooked up the levels remained pretty much the same, no changes once the unit started up. My conclusion along with a few other trusted techs is the compressor is locked up.
