ECM (Electrically Commutated Motor) do you work on systems with these types of motors? Being sort of a 'mawk' VFD based arrangement, the ECM motor allows great control of airflow in many different applications in HVAC/R. They are not the cheapest option, but I continually see them in more applications as time goes on. Their most known application is likely as the fan driving air through a home furnace/AC. I also see them on Evaporators, Condensers, ERV's, etc. They can work off of rotation speed, duct pressure, or amp draw, depending on how they are set up in their application. POLL: when repairing an ECM, what are you most commonly doing? Please answer and provide a comment with some details.
