EVAPORATORS (and beer 🍺 …image below). Most evaporators are finned type, and utilize a fan to encourage heat transfer opposite its normal direction - cold to hot. The fan is blowing the air out towards you in the image below. It sucks return air from the back of the coil. QSTN - what procedure are you most commonly performing on an Evap? Cleaning, leak checking, measuring superheat? 🤔 1 important consideration is that Evaporator TD = RAT - SST… Evaporator Temperature Difference = Return Air Temperature - Saturated Suction Temperature. It’s not always thought of in the field, but the purpose of TD on evaporator coils is to govern relative humidity in the space. Low TDs provide high RH, while high TDs provide lower RH.
