This is why safeties and glycol volumes are important to maintain. This water/water unit is a dual circuit (thankfully) that produces hot water, DHW. Found a failed relay that kept the contactor closed even beyond the heat call, and it even bypassed the low pressure cut out. Froze the evap BPHE and pop, in came the water. The water loop pressure went really high, as the gas inside was now mixing and expanding. We knew this circuit was toast so we ran it for a bit to see what actually happens while trying to flow water through a scroll. It was sketchy, but awesome to learn so much about this type of failure. It was certainly a #teachme moment, and hopefully outlines the important of system cutouts and safeties.🤘 Here’s the video of doing an acid test.
